Club Members Join Biodiversity Ireland to Tackle Himalayan Balsam at Ballindoon

Members of the Lough Arrow Fish Preservation Association & District Anglers recently joined Noel Raftery and Chantel Carr of Biodiversity Ireland for a Himalayan Balsam removal event at Ballindoon, close to Lough Arrow.
Himalayan Balsam is a highly invasive plant that spreads rapidly along riverbanks and lakeshores, outcompeting native vegetation and increasing the risk of bank erosion when it dies back each winter. Removing the plant before it sets seed is one of the most effective ways to control its spread and protect our local waterways.
Working together, volunteers hand pulled large areas of Himalayan Balsam, helping to reduce the seed source and improve the long term health of the area surrounding Lough Arrow.
Thank you to Noel and Chantel for their guidance and expertise, and to all of our club members and volunteers who gave up their time to help. Community efforts like this play an important role in protecting the biodiversity and natural beauty of Lough Arrow for future generations.
