Stream Rehabilitation Works

Cartron Stream

Important habitat restoration work has recently been completed on one of Lough Arrow’s key spawning streams, the Cartron Stream. The project included the installation of fencing, multiple livestock crossing points, and a dedicated access area for livestock to drink.

Most importantly, fresh spawning gravel was replenished along the stream, creating prime conditions for our wild trout to spawn this winter. This project was a collaborative effort between landowners, the Lough Arrow Fish Preservation Association & District Anglers, Inland Fisheries Ireland, and LAWPRO, and is a small example of what can be achieved when farmers, local groups and agencies work together to protect our wild lakes.
